Care Information
Climbing, professional, and rescue equipment are investments in your safety. Proper maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your gear.
- Sport Climbing Equipment
Harness
- Clean with clean water and mild soap (pH neutral). Avoid harsh detergents or bleach.
- Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Check regularly: seams, buckles, and webbing for signs of wear, tears, or damage.
- Store in a dry, cool place, away from chemicals, oils, and UV rays.
- Replace the harness if it has been dropped under a heavy load (high fall factor), shows visible damage, or is more than 10 years old from the date of manufacture.
Tali / Rope
- Wash with cold water and a special rope wash. Rinse thoroughly.
- Air-dry; avoid tumble dryers and direct sunlight.
- Store in a rope bag or loosely coiled in a cool, dry place.
- Avoid contact with chemicals, acids, bases, and oils.
- Check periodically for core damage, sheath wear, and stiff spots.
- Retire the rope after a high fall factor, if damage to the sheath or core is visible, or as recommended by the manufacturer.
Carabiner & Hardware
- Clean with clean water and a soft brush. Dry thoroughly before storing.
- Lubricate the valve spring with a dry lubricant if it feels stiff.
- Check: that the valve is working properly, and inspect the seat and locking mechanism, as well as the surfaces, for any signs of cracks or corrosion.
- Do not use a carabiner that has fallen from a significant height or appears to be cracked or bent.
Climbing shoes
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth after use. Avoid soaking in water.
- Dry in the shade in a well-ventilated area.
- Store in a cool, dry place; avoid excessive pressure, which may cause the shoes to lose their shape.
- The soles can be re-soled by a professional climbing shoe technician when the rubber begins to wear thin.
- Professional / Industrial Rope Access
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Follow the maintenance standards set out in EN 365 and the manufacturer’s guidelines for each item of equipment.
- Record every use in the equipment log book — date, condition and any incidents.
- Carry out a pre-use inspection before each use and periodic inspections by a Competent Person.
- Store separately from chemicals, heat and other sources of contamination.
Descender & Ascender
- Clean off dirt, dust and debris after each use.
- Check the cam, teeth and moving parts for wear or damage.
- Lubricate the moving parts in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Store in a dry and clean place.
Anchor & Rigging Equipment
- Thoroughly inspect webbing slings, rope slings and anchor points before use.
- Replace any slings showing signs of wear, excessive UV exposure or chemical contamination.
- Document all inspections in the equipment log book.
- Rescue Equipment
Rescue Rope & Rigging
- Clean after every rescue operation — particularly if it has come into contact with mud, seawater or chemicals.
- Dry thoroughly before storing to prevent mould and fibre degradation.
- Store in a clean, dry rope bag, ready for deployment at any time.
- Carry out load tests and regular inspections in accordance with the team’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Rescue Hardware (Pulley, Prusik, Belay Device)
- Clean and inspect after each operational use.
- Ensure that all moving parts are functioning correctly and are free from debris.
- Replace immediately if any damage is found — do not use equipment whose condition is in doubt.
Helmet
- Clean with water and mild soap. Avoid chemical solvents.
- Check the shell, suspension system and chin strap regularly.
- Replace the helmet after it has sustained a significant impact, even if there is no visible external damage.
- Replace in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations (generally 5–10 years from the date of manufacture).
- General Principles of Care
- Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines — each product has different care specifications.
- Discard equipment that has exceeded its service life, appears damaged, or has been subjected to extreme loads.
- Do not modify the equipment in any way.
- Store it correctly — away from UV light, heat, chemicals and excessive moisture.
- If you are unsure about the condition of the equipment, do not use it and consult us.

Description
Description
The ASTRO harness is designed for rope access technicians. Its design is specific to progression and rope ascent. The 3D foam padding and semi-rigid waistbelt and leg loop construction provide comfort throughout the workday. The gated ventral attachment point allows the user to efficiently install the necessary equipment for progression. The integrated CROLL L rope clamp improves efficiency for rope ascent. The waistbelt features metal side attachment points, equipment loops, and tool holder slots, allowing the user to organize and carry all the necessary equipment for a day of work.
- Ultra-comfortable construction:
- Shoulder straps are widely spaced to reduce neck chafing
- Sliding straps provide more freedom and ease of movement
- All contact zones, including the shoulder straps, waistbelt and leg loops, use 3D foam padding and are lined with breathable material, providing more comfort while suspended and throughout the workday
- Semi-rigid waistbelt and leg loops provide optimal harness fit and support
- Metal side attachment points can be folded down to prevent them snagging accidentally when not in use
- Elastic leg loop bands (replaceable and available as an accessory) allow the harness to maintain the right adjustment whether the user is walking or suspended
- Efficiently integrate equipment with gated ventral point:
- Connect the PROGRESS ADJUST or JANE lanyard directly to the pin of the attachment point without a connector
- The CROLL L ventral rope clamp is connected directly to the ventral point for greater efficiency and freedom of movement on rope ascents
- Connect a PODIUM or LITEPOD work seat to the pin of the attachment point so the load is supported directly by the descender, while providing mobility at the ventral attachment point
- Convenient adjustment system:
- Shoulder straps have a FAST opening buckle on the left, making it easy to put on and take off; and a DOUBLEBACK self-locking buckle on the right with an anti-slip device, for easy adjustments that don't slip
- Waistbelt is equipped with self-locking DOUBLEBACK buckles
- Leg loops are equipped with FAST opening buckles that fasten and unfasten quickly and easily, even while wearing gloves, without needing to readjust
- Easy to carry and organize equipment:
- Shoulder straps are equipped with a Velcro strap that can be adjusted up or down and positioned on the left or right side to hold an ASAP'SORBER energy absorber
- Lanyard connector parking for fall-arrest lanyards are installed on the shoulders
- Waistbelt is equipped with two foldable, side metal attachment points for connecting a positioning lanyard in double mode
- Seven pre-shaped equipment loops with protective sheath, two slots for CARITOOL tool holders and INTERFAST connection system, and two loops for TOOLBAG tool pouches
- In the event of a fall on the dorsal attachment point, a red indicator appears, signaling that the harness should be retired
Specifications:
- Ventral attachment point: Attachment for a descender, a progression or positioning lanyard in single mode, or a work seat
- Lateral attachment points: Attachment for a positioning lanyard for use in double mode
- Sternal attachment point: Attachment for a fall-arrest system
- Dorsal attachment point: Attachment for a fall-arrest system
- Rear attachment point on the waistbelt: Attachment for a restraint lanyard
